studio505 were invited to prepare a feasibility study for the development of an office tower and hotel complex situated on a public park space in Wujin, China. The initial brief stated that many in the Government wanted to maintain the existing garden and that many others wanted a new tower.
studio505's feasibility resolved the issue in the positive for both of these groups. The site was proposed as being neither a singular park, nor a singular tower. Like the Ying and the Yang, studio505 seeked to create harmony between the natural element of the garden and the man-made element of the tower. In fusing these two opposites into a Tower Garden, we created an urban hybrid unique to Wujin, where one can walk up over and through all elements of the building without leaving the garden. The proposal maintains the public access to the rooftop garden, thus allowing journey across and through the site.
