A competition entry for Preshil Library. studio505's proposal was for a campus hub creating density, complexity and choice. The plan refracts paths of travel, creates new vistas and encloses hide-aways for exploration.
The ramping book stacks talk about a knowledge journey and the Lorenz circulation fires imagination and curiosity. Our proposal creates two distinct 'wings' with which rests a courtyard around an existing tree. The library form and site is in a location that is rarely able to be appreciated in the round.
studio505 created a building that maximised each facade into a unique condition of openess, screening and permeability.
