This project is the result of winning an invited competition for the design of the new Interpol Global Complex in Singapore. The brief called for separate accommodation for Interpol and the rehousing of an existing Singapore Police Force station.
The competition and security briefs required the IGC and SPF components to be physically separated, but also linkable for collaborative efforts between the two agencies. studio505's solution was to locate two buildings around a diagonal line on the site with their own addresses. Interpol is oriented to Napier Rd, and SPF is oriented to Nassim Hill Rd. The curved form of the Interpol building responds to the need to set the bulk of the building away from Napier Rd and allows for excellent solar orientation.
Where the two building volumes ‘overlap' along the site defining diagonal, the Interpol building is at its the lowest whilst the SPF building at its highest to minimise their respective impact on one another. The thin width of both buildings ensures superb internal light quality, and the main length of the building aligns to the Grange Rd Axis, the dominant urban form in the surrounding area.
Finally, the site massing has been designed to ensure that no trees need to be removed for the construction of either building.
